TCN To Ration Power For Six Days Due To Shutdown Of Afam Power Plant For Maintenance

Starting from today, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will ration power across the country for six days so as to carry out a scheduled maintenance work.

A statement by the TCN yesterday announced a reduction in power generation by 400 megawatts due to plant shutdown for maintenance by Shell.

“Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) will be carrying out scheduled maintenance work on Okoloma Gas Plant which supplies gas to Afam VI Power Plant, thereby leading to the shutdown of the power plant, resulting in nationwide power rationing”, the statement said.

The shutdown of Afam VI power plant became necessary to allow SPDC inspect and carry out routine maintenance work on the Okoloma natural gas station in Afam, Rivers State, to ensure its technical integrity.

SPDC revealed that maintenance work on Okoloma gas plant was important to guarantee continuous and uninterrupted supply of gas to Afam VI for power generation into the national grid.

The statement quotes TCN as regretting any inconveniences the six-day power rationing will cause all electricity consumers nationwide.
