Abuja National Stadium comes alive again

The Abuja National Stadium main bowl pitch was Tuesday 17th September, 2013 handed over to the Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), by Julius Berger (Nig) limited, for use.

The ceremony was marked with a lot of funfair and a friendly match between the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria and a local club side, Amazon Soccer Academy.

The contract to rehabilitate the main bowl pitch was awarded to Julius Berger in January, this year, after disruption of power supply to the stadium, affected the regular wetting of the pitch which made it to be overgrown by weed.

The scope of work completed by Julius Berger includes the removal and replacement of the topsoil; planting the approved specie of grass, well watered and nourished until roots are established; and maintenance of the pitch, including watering and trimming of the grass.
It also provided new water sprinklers for the stadium.
