FG recruits 522 engineers for TCN

After two months of announcing its plan to recruit about 500 engineers, the Ministry of Power yesterday disclosed that it has given appointment letters to 522 engineers to work with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The move, which is part of the present Administration’s Reform Agenda in the Electricity Power Sector to address the manpower need of the company and prepare it for improved service delivery can now be said to have taken off.

A statement from TCN said the new engineers were received on Monday, by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Engr. Don Priestman, who  congratulated them for being a part of a new era in the company and expressed satisfaction in the fact that TCN is bringing in a crop of skilled young people with the potential to keep the future of the company unfolding as it should.

The MD/CEO stressed the need for hard work noting that TCN has in place an extremely satisfying career path for the new engineers.

Priestman who heads the team from Manitoba Hydro International – the appointed Management Contractor for TCN, personally handed over letters of employment to some of the newly recruited engineers.

Also, the Director General of National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), Engr. Reuben Okeke while addressing the young engineers disclosed that they would undergo training for one year before they are integrated fully in TCN,adding that three months of this period, would be spent in NAPTIN training school, while the rest would be spent in the various regions of TCN, where they would acquire practical operational experiences.

According to an official memo from the Federal Ministry of Power, signed by Mr. Ebenezer B. Olowosejeje, Deputy Director, Appointments, Promotions and Discipline (APD)  for the Honourable Minister of Power, the recruitment exercise cuts across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, with each zone accounting for 84 candidates and 18 supplementary, totaling 522.

Recall that Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti,had on July 19,2013, briefed State House correspondents after a meeting of the Board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo  in Abuja over the plans.
