NEW SUBSTATIONS BUILT ACROSS NIGERIA READY

Nigeria’s minister of power, Chinedu Nebo, says that seven power plants and 150 new substations built across the country are ready for inauguration. The power plants are part of the 10 being built under the National Integrated Power Plants (NIPP) project.

Nigeria has also approved US$10.2 million for the procurement of six 40 MVA 132/33 kV mobile substations, together with spare parts and accessories, to boost electricity supply across the country. The mobile sub-stations will be used to ensure the continuity of supply of electricity to consumers nationwide during major works at existing substations.

"The mobile substations are to make sure that whenever we have to undertake work on substations that are in the state of disrepair or that need to be entirely changed, we have mobile stations that will give respite to electricity consumers at these locations.

"They are also to provide emergency relief where major power disruption occurred, sometimes as a result of disasters occasioned by weather and ultimately they are like spare parts; you can redeploy them whenever the need arises to boost electricity supply."
